Maybe it's not even right to say that there even IS a story, because (so far) it's an extremely character-driven manga (just the way I like them tbh), but I like the MCs and I feel like their development makes sense, even though it's been slow so far and we still don't know everything about them.
I definitely recommend it if you like the genre!

Another yaoi with an amazing premise but horrible follow through. I wish we had higher standards for this form of storytelling, because I'm actually baffled as to how this is popular. I'm giving up on this. The story line is becoming shit. I don't understand Go Si-Won. Hes making me dislike him. It's like he was starting to like Lu Xuan Run after he (view spoiler)[ kidnapped him and started sexually harassing him through the dream thing (hide spoiler)]. So, that just totally put me off.

The art was amazing and the plot started out strong but I'm not interested any more.

IDK what the artist is thinking but I have HAD IT with Go Siwon and that Chinese dude and those damn stones. Call me when this is over so I can read the epilogue!

Edit: I have read the Epilogue and my God was this entire manhua dragged out.

Ok first of all, the art style was beautiful.

But the storyline...

I really liked it at first, it was cute and unique and I was really interested about their past. But as I reached the second half, it became so dragging. I mean, I don't get why the main character keeps on making stupid fucking decisions... and then the shithead with the other stone shows up...

I just skimmed through the remaining half. It was a disappointment.

Chap 1-30

Good gracioussss, so many FEELS like my heart is gonna explode any moment just because of this webtoon!!! I laughed, cried, resented, sympathized, scared, screamed, swooned, breathless, etc. I should feel irritated seeing Siwon's denial as I found out recently that my tolerance for this theme is running thin nowadays so I don't get it why I don't feel his denial irritating, maybe it's not that overdone in this webtoon? Also, good thing I usually wait until there are more chapters before I read it, if not, I don't know if I could handle the suspense at chapter 26-27 because the cliffhanger will be soooo unbearable. So good thing I had waited until chapter 30 out. I just needed contemporary right now after weeks of fantasy but turned out this webtoon has a bit supernatural thing inside, but it's okay.

Anyway, that powerful image of little Jun looked so alone and sad while standing alone at the door looking inside his house, OMG, this little kid was slowly breaking inside day by day because of loneliness and his parents....huks, my heart was instantly broken and I really wished I could hug little Jun to comfort and protect him from the world.

Chap 27 : (view spoiler)[is freaking scary and suspenseful that for a moment I thought their future can't be completely altered, some way or another one of them might be dying. I know there are many chapters ahead, but it's not impossible it'll become tragedy, right? (hide spoiler)]

Chap 29 : I'm in seme mode when I saw (view spoiler)[Siwon's embarrassed face when Jinha told him he knew Siwon had a dirty dream about them. Siwonnnn, why are you so cuuteeeee???? *heavily nosebleeding* (hide spoiler)]

And chap 30!!!

The moon was exceptionally big and bright that day...but you were even brighter than the moon.

Because you're the only person that makes my heart beat.

To hear you reject me as Kang Jun would be more painful than death.

From the day you first talked to me, you became my world.

-- Jinha

OMG Jinha, are you a poet? Me ---> swooned. HARD. Like. How. fucking. romantic. Is. This. *and then explodes to pieces and wallowing in self-pity and envy mode because I don't have significant other like Jinha*

Page 37 of chap 30 though, made me ROFL seeing how embarrassed Siwon at himself to witnessing that he's the one that started all of that, lololol. A drunk mind speaks a sober heart. Drunk a man and they lay their truest feelings bare, lolololol.

First let me say that the art is brilliant.

Which saddens me because the storyline was not. I'm so sick of reading BL mangas or webtoons that are homophobic and abusive. What the hell is with that? And it's not just BL, it's also GL and even mangas/webtoons with male and female relationships.

Swion says some really cruel fucking things to Jun. I also don't understand, if they were so close as kids, how he forgot Jun so easily and didn't know who he was. I call BS.

And another thing. Jun was practically going to RAPE Swion until he saw him crying. I don't care if it was one of their freaky dreams. What was with that? Swion said stop over and over. I cannot. Why are people writing this shit?

I will not be continuing with this webtoon.

i don't understand how people can find any aspect of this relationship romantic, it's just plain unhealthy. and don't even get me started on Jinha's ex, who makes Jinha look like the kindest person on earth in comparison.

these are just some of the issues i have with this manhwa, i don't have the patience to talk about the completely unnecessary dream-stone/destiny thing that makes zero sense in the context of the story.

the only reason i'm not giving this a one star is because it's dramatic enough i'll probably keep reading to see how it ends, albeit completely devoid of attachment to any of the characters

Disclaimer Part 2: There are many spoilers for later chapters in this review. If you would like to skip over the major plot points I discuss, read only the first paragraph and skip to the second set of asterisks near the end to read the summary of my review.

As many other reviews have stated, there are quite a lot of cliches present throughout the plot of this manhwa (love triangle, backstories, etc.). This is probably the story's main fault, as it relies on these to a sometimes unrealistic extent to keep the story moving forward. However, despite these, it does not attempt to build an unrealistic relationship out of absolutely nothing (whereas many other comics off of Lezhin have this issue, which makes most of their plots thereafter absurd).

**

Positives of this story:
-The art of the story suits its tone and dreamy feel at times, although it is a bit simplistic for some.
-The characters have some degree of depth to them. Knowing their backstories (or hints at them) explain quite a lot of their behavior, even if there are some very typical motivators present.
-(Some) of Siwon's reluctance is expressed very well. It is implied he lived in a conservative household where beliefs of homophobia were instilled in him. This is shown in both his thoughts and actions. He is shown to ask about the potential consequences of his feelings through his dialogue and is not quick to accept that he feels attracted to someone of the same gender.
-Some of the mechanics of the world are interesting. It makes you want to keep learning about hidden lore of the Fate and Envy Stones and how they relate to the given situation that the characters face.
-The dialogue is fitting for the characters, and the use of two languages adds realism to the fact some of the characters know Chinese.

Negatives of this story:
-As I mentioned before, it is saturated with cliches. I will tackle a few individually:
-Love Triangle (or more like a square): This consists of four characters, those being Jinha, Siwon,
Lu Xuan Run, and Donghyun. The chances of this happening in a real situation are... less than likely
when all centered on one person. The way this is handled takes away some of the realism from the
plot.
-Backstories: They pretty much all got the most generic backstories possible. Jinha's parents were
divorced, his mom committed suicide, he was abused, and he ended up moving away from his
childhood best friend. Generic. Lu Xuan Run is a spoiled rich boy who's upset because he finally
wasn't able to get what he wanted and is, consequently, lonely and hurt inside. He also seems to
lack a lot of empathy and will do anything to make things go his way. Generic. Siwon wanted to be
a comic artist, and his parents didn't support his dreams. He chose a different path because of this
in college. Generic. Oh yeah. Siwon and Jinha are childhood best friends.
-"Damsel-in-Distress": I'm not really sure what we call the male version of this, but I'll use this
for now. Simply put Siwon's waiting for his "Knight in shining armor" to come get him off the
wondrous private island he's been trapped on. For other references, please cite whatever folklore
you wish.
-The plot steered off-course from where it originally was expected to be. You'd think the plot would be about these stones being used and through the course of many dreams discovering what "events" occurred between Jinha and Siwon (which to me is fine because it lets the plot continue for longer than a few chapters, but it gets very spontaneous from there and loses its quality).

Now, I'm sure more could be said about this rollercoaster, but I think I'll leave it here for now.

**

All in all, if you're a fan of yaoi, you'll probably like this if you can deal with the characters making some unintelligent decisions and the cliches littered throughout. The layers of drama hold your attention quite well as you wait for each individual conflict to be resolved. If you're not a loyal fan and have decided to take a chance with this genre, it's a decent introduction to a good portion of what you can easily find but definitely not the best it has to offer. As such, it is not completely representative of all yaoi/BL.

(I will say to any who are on board for reading this, it does have a few trigger/content warnings, which are along the lines of: child abuse, suicide, drugs [not a huge plot point but still present], sexual content, homophobia, and some curses.)

Personally, it's an enjoyable read for me as I continue to follow updates on Lezhin, and I hope this review is of use to any potential readers (even with its few spoilers). Enjoy your reading~

There are a few issues with this webcomic. The characters make frustratingly irrational decisions, and the plot takes some awkward turns that upset the flow. The art style is amazing 90% of the time, but the other 10% of the time it's poorly done and it pulls you out of the story. And while the supernatural elements are nice, they are not explored enough and it leaves you wanting more.
All of that being said, I absolutely adored this story. The characters were dramatic, emotional, and they were fun. The author certainly knows how to manipulate feelings of love and excitement in their audience, and it is done incredibly well. While the art did have its share of flaws, the artist never fails to use pacing and dramatic poses to deliver a comedic punchline or a moment of drama. In the most intense moments the art truly shines, allowing the reader to admire a frame done with incredible detail and care.
I absolutely devoured this work and it deserves a 4 star rating and lots of praise.

This plot device might work if we're nearing the ending right there, but this is not the case so it's not entirely necessary and/or significant. (Also, there's a better way to handle it Siwon why are you being frustrating.)
I got bored with some parts, it's really dragging, but the ending was heartwarming.

What really saved the rating for me were the great dialogues and the characters. I really like the backstories and how the stone lets you see someone's true feelings, their scars and what contributed to it. It's a bit basic but there's nothing that lets you understand a character better than this fate stone (except, perhaps, Pakunoda's Memory Bomb.)

The characters
Siwon – My biggest pet peeve is naïve, stupid and gullible MCs who let cliché blackmail leading to misunderstanding and drama happen. We could have saved ourselves from lotsa frustration if Siwon used his brain or his mouth and be more honest with himself early on.

But then again he's probably the most realistic character here. He's straight and a guy suddenly told him he likes him. We can't expect him to suddenly be gay just because this is BL. And he has his merit. Once in a while, he would say something like this…

Man, your harem is deserved.

Jinha - your typical good-at-anything, considerate, perfect boyfriend-material seme who only exist for his uke. What's unexpected from his first impression is how much of a cinnamon roll this guy actually is.

Donghyun – I love his backstory and his character really spoke to me.

Though I was disappointed because feelings of pure friendship should exist. It didn't have to be romantic at all just because this is BL.

Lu Xuan Run – Did not expect this Chinese guy to be my favorite character. He's a really well-developed villain. I'll forgive the problem areas for the sake of his redemption arc.

My heart aches for him, hitting you right in the feels. He's got an okay ending but he deserves a spin-off, I want to see him happy. :'(

Overall, I recommend this if you want a light BL romance who doesn't mind the drama. It's on the wholesome spectrum too. (It does have BDSM on the side because plot's eclectic, but it's still considered 'cute').

Considering this is a webtoon, the quality is just amazing. The coloring is one of the things that super stands out. This has more quality than some games. Heck, I'd love to see Waje work on a game, the art is beautiful, the coloring slays me in, and the guys can get it any time of the day. Plus Waje does terrifying expressions as well as beautiful, bless 🙏🙏👌

Jinha flashes hot and cold, which I usually don't like, but there are always this sense that he does it because he has reasons behind it. Not just to make some drama, et all.

Before I go and detail some spoilers, for you all that don't want them, I just want to assure that this is NOT like Killing Stalking. I know friends say Jinha reminds them of a softer Sanwon, but considering Sanwon is a psychopath that likes killing and inflicting pain, I think it's NOT TRUE.

Jinha has been in love with Siwon way before, and this push and pull of theirs starts from Siwon not remembering what happened between them. While Jinha does have a temper, and legit terrifying expressions, he'd never hurt Siwon physically. In fact, Siwon hurts Jinha far more than Jinha ever does, so /shrugs

(view spoiler)[Now for SPOILAAAS ALERT
I've read to chapter 17, and I'm super shook tbh with you.

Fucking koreans always have to bring death, tragedy, blood, angst and drama into their webtoons, soap operas, etc. I didn't expect this to have them or hit me in the nuts (ovaries really) like it did.

As soon as the whole Jun back story started, and we saw how he got physically abused by his mother, and then his mother killed herself and he saw her fucking head cracked bloody open, et all, jfc. Also let's not forget this all came from the scumbag father, who really must have changed and shaped Jun's personality into what it is now. I really want to sock him in the face and twist that sneer into pain 💣💣💣🔪🔪🔪

SPOILERS OFF (hide spoiler)]

I really do want them to get back together and talk this shit out, instead of this zig-zag they've been doing. Plus they can't really do magical dreams forever, ffs!

Siwon as a kid was such a cute, pure little shota, bless him and his shorts /omnomnoms on his cheeks Plus he blushed easily from an early age. For someone who says they don't like kissing males, when you're blushing and don't struggle and maybe even grip them closer, then what can you expect? Plus he gets some pretty vivid, and kinky, daydreams, so someone is definitely into Jinha 😹😹😹

There is homophobia in this webtoon, also again tragedy, some blood/suicide, but there isn't any rape (as far as 17 chapters have been) and tbh it is grounded in reality, even with some fantasy elements.

Tbh, I really want them to get together, figure their shit out and kiss more, cause I'm still shook. The kisses and licking so far has got me SHOOK asf /clears throath

It's funny, I normally hate love triangles but this one in the manhwa was really nicely done. The Lu Xuan character was definitely the most interesting side character out of all the characters to be completely honest with you. I won't go into too much detail about him as he appears mid way of the story.

What can I say about the couple? Well they are basically your typical couple in any story but I honestly thought the art on both bois were very attractive and adorable.

I give this manhwa 3 stars because of its addictive physiological ride. However I wouldn't call this the very best I've ever read as it is still a bit predictable but again it was all nicely done still!

I love the development of their characters up until chapter 40-ish, but then... it felt like wth. I can't force myself to believe why Jinha just not tell Siwon who No Seonyoon really was. He did tell him he was bullied and tricked in his school time in China, so why didn't he just point his finger to Seonyoon and told Siwon that he's the one behind the incidents. WHYYYYY??!? Stupid storyline.

I once reviewed another similar manhwa, What Lies in the End and said a little sad about the abrupt ending, well I take that back. It's better to have a proper ending than a rubbery storyline like this.

Everything these characters say and do just feels so out of place like no real person would really act. I feel like the author freaked out about producing more chapters and just aimlessly followed a couple storylines until we ended up where we are now. The one thing I must compliment it on is that all the art has been consistently breathtaking, and it really is the only reason I have stuck to this manhwa. I think the first several chapters are definitely worth the read, but once you notice the plot starting to go down hill, just BAIL because each new chapter is a newer low, and it will not pick back up.

I thought I put this in "my read" list already....?
Guess that was a different edition?
Anyways this was a lovely story. Unlike most Boy's Love series/ MM I didn't hate this at all and the romance in the story was so sweet and heartwarming. It's worth a try. Warning: there are some dark backstories of some of the characters and the story a bit dragy at the beginning. It's one of my favorite Korean Manhwa ever!

I have so many emotions. The artistry is so soft at times, but it's so beautiful. And the story that unfolds is so angsty, but fluffy - so many feelz! I have so many emotions. It started off good. Nice and fluffy and I really wanted the main characters to get together but ohmygod after they did I just wanted it to end. They went from wholesome and cute to hella problematic and incapable of actually talking to each other. I dont know if it gets better towards the end but I'm not finishing this. Go Siwon has such concerning ideas of what sexuality is. His thoughts and fantasies all seem to center around being forced into doing somewhat sexual things. He thinks being gay It started off good. He thinks being gay is wrong but also has gay thoughts. He has self-hatred and none of this gets really addressed. Kang Jinha is so freaking annoying. Has absolutely zero communication skills and is amazingly self-centered. He's so quick to blame others. He crosses so many boundaries and doesn't seem to have a firm grasp of what consent is. They're whole relationship is kind of toxic tbh. Half way through the story a third character is introduced as an antagonist and rival love interest and he is absolute garbage fire yet somehow i understand him better than i do the main characters. he starts out in love with Jinha but then switches to Siwon and I don't understand it. but whatever. I stopped there. I couldnt take anymore of the awful writing but the art is beautiful. ...more

the first 35 chapters were legendary, but after Lu Xuan Run enters the story, the overall quality of the narrative takes a nosedive. it's like the author had two different stories they wanted to tell and couldn't decide between the two, so they just smashed them together with terrible results. yet at the same time i can see what the author was going for. the premise—two guys who interact within their dreams, only to be interrupted by a threatening force—is really interesting, but the execution w the first 35 chapters were legendary, but after Lu Xuan Run enters the story, the overall quality of the narrative takes a nosedive. it's like the author had two different stories they wanted to tell and couldn't decide between the two, so they just smashed them together with terrible results. yet at the same time i can see what the author was going for. the premise—two guys who interact within their dreams, only to be interrupted by a threatening force—is really interesting, but the execution was poor in this case.

i wanted to dnf this around chapter 50 since it kept making me mad. and let me tell you i regret not doing that. i'd rather go back and reread the first 35 chapters over and over than watch the unnecessary drama that unfolds later down the line. actually, i might eventually just pretend everything after chapter 35 didn't happen. i'll need to do that to save my sanity.

the pacing of the first 30-35 chapters was a bit off, and the art quality did dip at some points, but the story and characters were absolutely stunning. it was an enchanting emotional rollercoaster that made me made me cry and laugh and smile. i was hooked pretty much instantly and the mystery is what really kept me coming back for more.

but i wish that the rest of the story had that same quality. i gave up because none of the chapters could match the sick dopamine overload that those first 35 have to offer. the story changes a lot when Lu Xuan Run is introduced, and it really does change for the worse. characters get dumber, no decisions from that point forward make sense. there are a couple of cute scenes with Go Siwon and Kang Jinha later on, but it might not be worth reading through all the utter nonsense just to find those. there's very few of them.

the direction this story heads in in the second half is heart wrenching and disgusting, and none of it feels right. it's so out of place and jarring i almost thought i was reading a different manhwa altogether at some points. definitely stop this one early if you get triggered by certain subject matter easily. i had to learn that the hard way.

i thought the supernatural stuff would be expanded upon more, but we barely get anything to work with. there's actually a huge problem regarding the supernatural element that gets straight up contradicted at the very end. i'm talking the last few lines of dialogue. that was one of the worst things about A Guy Like You. if the characters had just unpacked the details of a certain past event, that would have opened up a whole discussion, which could've been used to further explore the characters' feelings for one another. but that one thing is just brushed over; no attention was paid to the implications. it was one of the smaller things that most will likely miss, but it certainly bothered me.

also, the ending is just plain stupid. the last few chapters make no sense, and when they do, it's because someone has just figured out the most obvious thing in the world. and the one moment the whole story was building up to just came off as goofy and was played for laughs half the time.

i'm giving this 3 whole stars because this story isn't completely bad. the parts that i did enjoy i enjoyed a lot. and believe it or not there were some moments toward the end that i thought were clever.

someday i might reread the first half of the story and ponder what could've been, but for now i'm so done and disappointed. this story had a lot of potential. all it had to do was not screw up. and then it went out of its way to do just that.

the whole story could've easily been concluded around chapter 30-something; A Guy Like You is a story that didn't need a villain.
